Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)
Breast reduction surgery is done for patients to improve their self image, to make it easier to excercise, decrease neck, shoulder, and upper back pain, and allow better hygiene beneath the breast when rashes and infections are a problem. The surgery results in a scar around the new nipple areola location which is determined by Dr. Siegel and his patient. The nipple areola is usually less two inches in diameter, and teh scar below the areola measures leass then two inches and connects with a horizontal scar beneath the breast. These scars are not visible with swim wear and usually fade with time. During your consultation Dr. Siegel can draw a picture of the location of the surgical incisions on paper to give you a better visual understanding.
The surgery is usually performed at Chesapeake Regional Hospital under general anesthesia and an overnight stay or as an outpatient. If the breasts are large enough for the patient to suffer multiple physical problems as noted above, most insurance companies will deem this procedure reconstructive and cover the expense. Supporting medical documentation for these problems from your primary physicain are necessary for insurance pre-approval.
Smaller busted women may have the procedure performed in Dr. Siegel's private operating suite. The procedure takes approximately three hours. Patients can return to work in about 10 to 14 days, and return to vigorous excercise in about 3 weeks if healing is complete.
